Oregon is working hard to flip a blue-chip linebacker from an SEC school. He's a standout from Hoschton, Georgia, and has been committed to Alabama since March. The 6'3, 220-pound linebacker is one of the top defensive prospects in the 2025 class and is highly coveted. But Oregon is now making a serious push to change his mind.
That player is composite 4-Star LB Luke Metz. Recently, Oregon extended an offer to Metz, showing that they have interest in him. And according to Adam Gorney of Rivals, Metz and the Oregon staff have been talking "a lot" in recent days.
According to the article, Oregon has also made sure he knows that signing day is still far away. Metz appears to have an open mind about it which is a great sign for the ducks. This gives Oregon a chance to potentially flip the 4-Star linebacker.
While a flip is not imminent, this situation is one to monitor closely. Oregon seems determined to land Metz and is pulling out all the stops to make it happen. Oregon is going to sign at least one, probably two linebackers this class so it will be interesting to see who they will be. Metz is a big name to watch going forward.
Where does he rank?
Rivals: 4-Stars, 5.9 rating. NATL: #88

ESPN: 79 rating, 3-Stars
Instinctive off-ball linebacker prospect that can sift through traffic and make stops in the hole. Spent junior season working inside and outside of the box while also getting some looks as an edge rusher. Plays with consistent energy, flashing plenty of range while charging forward. Athletic enough to get the job done in space and handle drop coverage responsibilities. Tends to strike ball carriers and uses impressive grip strength to get them on the ground. Not a ton of third-party information available coming off an impressive junior campaign, but is believed to be hovering right around 6-foot-3, 215 pounds with room to add additional mass. Should be viewed as a high-floor, second-level defender with three-down capabilities based on the game tape. Likely to add plenty of value on special teams at the school of his choice.
