Signing day for the 2025 class is approaching quickly, but the Oregon coaching staff is already laying the groundwork for the 2026 cycle. While locking in their current class is crucial, the Ducks are also focusing on securing commitments from elite underclassmen. According to recent reports, Oregon is positioning itself as the leader for one of the best defensive backs on the West Coast.

According to Rivals’ Adam Gorney, Oregon is “starting to distance itself” and is “definitely the team to beat” for high 4-star DB Davon Benjamin. The talented prospect has been a priority for Dan Lanning’s staff, and their efforts seem to be paying off. Benjamin has already made multiple trips to Eugene, and Lanning recently visited his high school, showcasing that he is a major target.

Benjamin is listed at 6'0, 170 pounds, and plays for Oaks Christian High School in Westlake Village, California. He plays both safety and cornerback at the high school level and It's unclear which position Oregon is recruiting him for, but his ability to perform at either spot adds to his value.

He is ranked #29 overall and the #3 safety in the 2026 class according to the 247Sports composite rankings. Benjamin is just outside the 5-star threshold. If the 2026 rankings ended today, he would be a 5-star, but they don't hand out as many 5-star rankings this early.

While Benjamin has not announced a commitment date, Oregon looks to be in a fantastic position heading into the months ahead. USC is believed to be the Ducks' biggest competition, but for now, all signs seem to be pointing to Eugene as the likely destination for one of the West Coast’s premier defensive backs.
