The transfer portal has been open for just a day, and Oregon is already making lots of noise. Yesterday, reports surfaced that Bear Alexander is expected to visit Eugene, and now another big-time name reportedly has Oregon as an early favorite.
According to A to Z Sports Analyst Ryan Roberts, Oregon is a frontrunner for Purdue transfer safety Dillon Thieneman. Listed at 6'0 and weighing 207 pounds, Thieneman was named the 2023 Big Ten Freshman of the Year. With two years of eligibility left, he’s a highly coveted player in the transfer portal.
In 2024, Thieneman recorded 104 total tackles, one sack, and six pass deflections. His performance has earned him a 4-star rating and a 90 overall grade in the 247Sports transfer portal rankings. He will have many top programs after him.
Oregon isn’t alone in pursuing Thieneman. Roberts reported that Ohio State is also an early frontrunner, and the Buckeyes have a reputation for their aggressive recruiting efforts. Oregon and Ohio State battling for top talent will be a mainstay in college football. This shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone; both schools are among the best in the Big 10.
For Oregon, landing Thieneman would address an immediate need in the secondary, with starters Kobe Savage and Tysheem Johnson set to graduate. While the Ducks have numerous talented young players ready to step up, adding Thieneman would provide proven experience at safety.
