RECRUITING FOOTBALL

Safety seems like a very important need for Oregon in their 2026 class based on how many they are recruiting. To date, Oregon is going after 5-star Blaine Bradford, as well as 4-stars Jireh Edwards, Chace Calicut, Salesi Moa, Xavier Lherisse, Jett Washington, and Keenan Harris. Now, another top safety prospect has emerged for Oregon, and he has reportedly locked in an official visit to the Ducks.
Elite 2026 athlete Joey O’Brien will take an official visit to Oregon on June 6th, according to Tyler Harden’s Instagram. O’Brien has yet to visit Oregon, so this will be his first time seeing the Ducks unless he schedules a spring visit beforehand. Standing at 6'4, he is highly regarded in the 2026 cycle and will be a priority for many top programs.
O’Brien is currently listed as an athlete but is expected to play safety at the next level, though I have not confirmed if that is what Oregon is recruiting him as. The Ducks have a lot of work to do in this recruitment, but securing an official visit is the first step. In addition to Oregon, O’Brien plans to officially visit Penn State, Notre Dame, Clemson, Tennessee, and Ohio State, with the Buckeyes securing the final visit before his decision. Unless he makes it out for a spring visit, Oregon’s chances of landing him are low.
O’Brien plays for La Salle College High School in Glenside, Pennsylvania, and holds over 27 offers. While he is a top-ranked prospect, Oregon currently appears to be sitting around third or fourth at best in this recruitment. The Ducks are in a strong position with other safeties, particularly Jireh Edwards, Salesi Moa, and Xavier Lherisse, while Oregon is also still in the thick of it for Jett Washington too.
Back to O’Brien, Oregon would love to add him to their class, and his highest ranking comes from 247Sports, where he is No. 50 nationally. He also ranks No. 104 on On3, No. 106 on ESPN, and No. 212 on Rivals. Oregon has plenty of work to do in this recruitment, but given the depth of safeties they are pursuing, it is hard to imagine this class being anything less than elite by signing day.
