Oregon's 2026 recruiting board is shaping up quickly as the Ducks identify which prospects they want to pursue. Particularly in the secondary, there seems to be a ton of prospects the Ducks are going after. Oregon currently has no defensive backs committed in the 2026 class yet, but another target has emerged for the Ducks, and he's currently committed to a Big 12 team.

4-star 2026 defensive back JJ Dunnigan Jr. tells me he has two visits to Oregon on his mind. One in the spring on April 19th, and then he says he plans to return for an official visit but does not have a date set yet. Dunnigan committed to Kansas on January 2nd, but the Ducks offered him on January 29th, and that offer seems to have sparked his interest.

Dunnigan is a 6'2, 185-pound safety/corner from Manhattan High School in Manhattan, Kansas. His father played cornerback for Purdue and Kansas State, but he chose to take his talents to Kansas instead of those schools. Oregon hopes that they can change his mind.

Dunnigan participated in the Under Armour All-American Game as a junior, and he had a great game. According to his 247Sports scouting report, he's a "box-checking defensive back prospect with no shortage of developmental upside given the length/speed combo. Size has not been third-party verified, but looked to be over six feet at practices for the annual Under Armour All-America Game. More notably, showcased the ability to make some dynamic turns and hang with quick-footed wide receivers in a best-on-best setting. Made plays in a variety of different ways as a junior and should offer that same position flex at the next level as he’s got the length and burst to match as an outside cornerback, but also the range and eyes to close passing lanes from a center-field safety posting. Projects as a potential multi-year starter that will likely need some seasoning before he’s ready to go on Saturdays, but one that has the traits to morph into an impact defender."

Dunnigan could be due for a rankings update after his Under Armour Game performance, but currently, his highest ranking is by Rivals, where he checks in as a four-star and #248 nationally. On3 ranks him as a high three-star with an 89 rating, and 247Sports ranks him as a high three-star with an 88 rating. Oregon only offered him in late January, but he has two visits on his mind, and the Ducks should be considered a threat to flip the talented defensive back.
