RECRUITING BASKETBALL

The college basketball season tips off Monday for the Oregon Ducks as they face UC Riverside. While the Ducks aren’t ranked in the preseason top 25, any Oregon fan will tell you this team has the potential to make some noise. Coach Dana Altman is not only preparing his team for a promising season, but he’s also staying busy on the recruiting trail. This past weekend, Altman and his staff hosted a big-time 5-star guard.

Last weekend Oregon hosted 2025 5-star Brayden Burries. Burries, a highly coveted 6’4 combo guard from San Bernardino, California, brings elite talent and versatility. He is listed at 200 pounds and has the skillset to be an instant impact player for Oregon. He would be a tremendous addition for the Ducks. Hosting Burries has firmly positioned Oregon in his recruitment. Should they manage to secure his commitment, it would be a massive win for Altman and his staff.

For Oregon, Burries is a somewhat rare high school target, as the program is starting to lean more toward the transfer portal. Oregon has really only went after a handful of prep players the past couple years. In 2024 they signed Jamari Phillips at the last minute, and in 2025 they still have no commits. Still, players like Burries, who could be a future NBA lottery pick, are too valuable to ignore. The last Duck to be selected in the NBA lottery was Chris Duarte in 2021, and landing Burries could revive that pipeline to the NBA.

Burries is ranked as the 12th best player in the nation according to 247Sports compsite rankings. He began his high school career at Riverside Poly before transferring to Roosevelt in 2022. Unfortunately, due to eligibility issues, he couldn’t play that season, but he rebounded strongly in 2023-2024, putting up impressive stats: 24.8 points, 7.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.7 steals per game while shooting 55% from the field and 37% from beyond the arc.

After his weekend visit, Oregon has firmly cemented its spot in Burries recruitment, although it will remain a competitive battle. Along with Oregon, Burries has taken official visits to Alabama, SMU, and Arizona. NIL will play a big role in his decision, and we know Oregon has lots of resources. While the Ducks may not be the leader, this visit has strengthened their shot at landing one of the most talented guards in the 2025 class.
